Solutions
Solar Lighting
Glenergy offers solutions for solar lighting for a wide variety of purposes. Key to our mission is the development and introduction of solar LED and compact fluorescent lighting products that are specifically designed to improve the quality of life for those in the developing world without electric power available. However, these same technologies, and sometimes even the same products, find use here at home in Canada. Cottages, hunt camps and other leisure-time abodes can benefit from the application of solar power--particularly when the buildings are far from the central grid. Our LED lights can also provide reliable low-power lights for illuminating entrances, pathways and signs, and can be used to provide power-failure lighting that will last hours instead of minutes.
Edulight Family of Solar Lamps
Our Edulight family of products demonstrates how much can be done with just a small amount of power. The solar LED desk lamp is the lead product of that series. Known as the 'Edulight' in many parts of the world, it can be charged in a day's sunshine and provides 6-8 hours of even, white light that is suitable for reading and for many other tasks. This solar LED reading light uses a 1 watt solar panel to charge 10 Wh of NiCd batteries (800 mAh at 12V) and uses an 18 LED bulb that consumes 1 watt of power. The LEDs have a nominal life of 100 000 hours and the solar panel will last 30 years. Batteries last 3-4 years depending upon service and handling. Imagine a light that will shine every night for 30 years! We did.
Our wall lamp and table lamp use the same circuitry as the desk lamp, but instead of 1-watt white LED bulbs, they use 3-watt compact fluorescent or cold-cathode compact fluorescent bulbs, and are generally charged with 3-watt solar panels instead of the 1-watt solar panels used for the solar LED desk lamp (the Edulight).
The cabin light shares many key components with the solar LED desk lamp. It uses the same LED bulb and the same battery pack. It comes with an 'automatic' mode that will turn the light on if a connected solar panel sees no light (i.e., it turns on at night) or if a connected AC adapter generates no voltage (i.e., there is a power outage). It is mountable on a wall or ceiling, and the floodlight head of the cabin light can be aimed quite well. The cabin light can be used in security applications, for illuminating doors, gates. More compact than the desk lamp, and more rugged, it can be hung from a nail or set on a table.
Using the same solar panels and battery packs as the various lamps are our solar powerpacks. These amazing little device are very portable 12V power supplies. Capable of charging such devices as GPS units and cell phones or running lights and very small appliances, the solar powerpack provides up to 18 watts of power at a time, and contain 10, 25 or even 50 Watt hours of energy.
Accessories, which may be standard or optional depending upon the product model, include:

- NiMH battery pack
Glenergy Brand 12 Volt Compact Fluorescent Bulbs
These lights are particularly useful when you are running on battery power, or wherever you have limited amounts of power. With an efficiency more than 4 times higher than incandescent bulbs, and with power draw as low as 3 watts, these bulbs allow lots of light in remote locations
We offer a selection of compact fluorescent light bulbs under our own brand. These are made for us under the strictest of quality provisions, and carry a Glenergy one year warranty. Of greatest interest is the 12 V DC compact fluorescent bulbs, available in colours from 2700K to 6200K, in wattages from 3 to 20 and in both U-type and spiral format. Please note that not all combinations are available.
In addition to 12 V DC compact fluorescent lights, we also have a
limited selection of 24 V DC compact fluorescent lights and both 110 V
AC and 220 V AC compact fluorescent lights.
Solar Lighting Systems
Putting it all together is what we do best! We can put together the components for lighting anything from a book to a school to a schoolyard. We can light a map or a keyhole. Your system might weigh less than a kg or it might fill a shipping container. If you want to light something, contact us to describe your needs and desires--maybe we can help!
